Proceeds to Benefit

The Greens for Good Charity Golf event, presented by Fortunato Construction Group, directly benefits Work Vessels for Vets (WVFV) - a Connecticut based, award-winning, volunteer-run, national charity with the mission to award equipment to injured veterans who are starting a business. Since 2008, WVFV has equipped more than 3,000 veterans in all 50 states with tools, trucks, tractors, farm machinery, forklifts, electronics, drones, and more - valued at over $3.5 million!

Fortunato Construction Group is honored to host this charity golf tournament for the 3rd year in a row, supporting a cause that is close to our hearts and making a positive impact in the community.

Thank you to all who participated in our 2024 charity golf event - we were able to donate over $40,000 to Work Vessels for Vets!

Meet 2025 Work Vessels for Vets Applicant

SSG Douglas Thomas / Thomas Caliber Concrete, LLC

Connecticut Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Douglas Thomas of Uncasville, CT is building his business, Thomas Caliber Concrete, from the ground up. He's providing high-quality concrete services throughout Connecticut, but he's doing it with a 210,000-mile 2005 Ford F-150 that's become increasingly unreliable. And this shouldn't be a barrier for growing his business. WVFV hopes to assist SSG Thomas with obtaining a dependable work truck. Acquiring a reliable truck will significantly improve SSG Thomas’s business operations and growth potential - ensuring consistent transportation of tools, materials, and equipment, enhancing the ability to arrive on time, complete jobs efficiently, and maintain his reputation for reliability.

To SSG Thomas, the concrete industry symbolizes honesty and stability. “The work is demanding, but it’s honest - if a pour is flawed, concrete will tell you. Concrete construction is as much a test of character as it is a technical skill, and that’s what I bring to every job,” writes Thomas. Our goal at the 2025 Greens for Good Charity Golf event is to raise funds to provide SSG Thomas with a new work truck.

Join us on September 22 to help raise funds for WVFV so they can equip SSG Thomas and other Veterans for success!

Meet the 2024 Work Vessels for Vets Awardees

USMC SGT Christopher Connelly / CMB Circuits LLC

USMC SGT Christopher Connelly is is starting a small batch circuit board manufacturing business. SGT Connelly served for seven years in the Marine Corps and was deployed three times to Iraq and Indonesia. He returned to civilian life carrying 70% service-connected disability rating. Work Vessels for Vets is committed to awarding the specialized soldering and security equipment he needs to manufacture custom circuit boards to meet the highest security standards for the military and their civilian subcontractors. He has over 20 years in the circuit board industry and has completed the Boots to Business course from the SBA and the UConn Entrepreneurial Bootcamp for Veterans business education program.

Staff Sergeant Matt Tempesta / Tempco Fly Fishing

Staff Sergeant Matt Tempesta of the Massachusetts Army National Guard was activated to serve in Afghanistan in 2010 where he sustained service-connected injuries. He has turned his life experiences from leadership in the military to a passion for fly-fishing. SSG Tempesta’s background as an Instructor/Infantrymen in the Military has equipped him with invaluable skills in leadership, communication, and the art of teaching. By channeling these abilities, he can provide aspiring anglers with not just the technical aspects of fly fishing, but also an immersive and transformative experience. Matt is an ORVIS certified fly-fishing tour guide, as well as a qualified fishing instructor. His guide business, Tempco Fly Fishing is up and running with the vessel and gear from Work Vessels for Vets. Matt also works closely with nonprofit groups to assist fellow injured veterans such as Project Healing Waters and Rivers to Recovery.

US Army SFC Scott Shelton / Heal the Land Farm

US ARMY SFC Scott Shelton served in the Army Special Forces (Green Berets) and Army Reserve.  He returned from 5 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, with 3 Bronze Stars and numerous other recognitions but he also had cumulative injuries and wounds resulting in 100% service-connected injuries.  He retired from a 20 year career in the military. In July 2022, he purchased an abandoned farm in Tar Heel, North Carolina where he is working to re-establish it as an operational farm for livestock and produce. SFC Shelton writes in his application to Work Vessels for Vets…“The farm was abandoned when purchased and much of the land is still in agricultural production, but we look to expand our grazing operations by 17 acres per year for the next three to five years. Our ten-year plan as we iron out our processes is to validate our systems and create training that would empower veteran farms to succeed and build wealth while owning a farming business. Being a disabled veteran I am not able to do the bulk of the clearing by hand and greatly need a skid steer with attachments to be able to scale the business in a timely manner by converting unmanaged overgrown woods to pasture.” Our goal for the Greens for Good Charity Golf event is to raise funds and also connect SFC Shelton with a skid steer seller or donor.
