This year’s Greens for Good Charity Golf Event will benefit Work Vessel for Vets (WVFV), a CT-based non-profit working to equip Veteran entrepreneurs. WVFV has served over 3800 Veterans with support for business enterprises or career education. The WVFV supported businesses have created 3,000+ new jobs and made a positive economic impact over $14 Million. This year’s Greens for Good will raise funds to support three Veterans with equipment to further their business ventures.

Staff Sergeant Matt Tempesta of the Massachusetts Army National Guard was activated to serve in Afghanistan in 2010 where he sustained service-connected injuries. He has turned his life experiences from leadership in the military to a passion for fly-fishing. SSG Tempesta’s background as an Instructor/Infantrymen in the Military has equipped him with invaluable skills in leadership, communication, and the art of teaching. By channeling these abilities, he can provide aspiring anglers with not just the technical aspects of fly fishing, but also an immersive and transformative experience. Matt is an ORVIS certified fly-fishing tour guide, as well as a qualified fishing instructor. His guide business, Tempco Fly Fishing is up and running with the vessel and gear from Work Vessels for Vets. Matt also works closely with nonprofit groups to assist fellow injured veterans such as Project Healing Waters and Rivers to Recovery.
US ARMY SFC Scott Shelton served in the Army Special Forces (Green Berets) and Army Reserve. He returned from 5 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, with 3 Bronze Stars and numerous other recognitions but he also had cumulative injuries and wounds resulting in 100% service-connected injuries. He retired from a 20 year career in the military. In July 2022, he purchased an abandoned farm in Tar Heel, North Carolina where he is working to re-establish it as an operational farm for livestock and produce. SFC Shelton writes in his application to Work Vessels for Vets…“The farm was abandoned when purchased and much of the land is still in agricultural production, but we look to expand our grazing operations by 17 acres per year for the next three to five years. Our ten-year plan as we iron out our processes is to validate our systems and create training that would empower veteran farms to succeed and build wealth while owning a farming business. Being a disabled veteran I am not able to do the bulk of the clearing by hand and greatly need a skid steer with attachments to be able to scale the business in a timely manner by converting unmanaged overgrown woods to pasture.”
